Hand Dyed Fabrics & Vegetarian Cupcakes!!

Who says that hemp has to be one solid color? Not me! While I enjoy the look of the natural hemp fabric or even solid dyed fabrics, I wanted to create something a little different. This morning I had a field day with my low impact fiber reactive dyes. The handbags that will be made from these fabrics will not only be limited edition but OOAK (one of a kind) because I only dyed enough fabric to make one handbag. While solid (vat) dyeing achieves consistent results, the technique that I used to make these fabrics made for truly one of a kind textiles. I am of the mind set that I'd rather be individual than be like everyone else. Take a look at the newest fabrics in my handbag making stash.

On a totally different note, my little ones and I made some scrumptious vegetarian cupcakes with buttercream frosting over the weekend. These cupcakes don't contain any eggs but the buttercream frosting does contain butter which is the only milk product in both the cupcakes and frosting.

These cupcakes were SCRUMPTIOUS!!!

New Design Idea

Here is a sneak peek of one the of our embroidered hemp cotton tissue holder. I wasn't sure how this would turn out and I was trying gout a new pattern as well as new sewing technique. I will admit that I was a little afraid because I have never really done free motion embroidery but I am happy with the results.

What do you think? Yes the embroidery is a simple one but it was trial run. This tissue holder is made of hand dyed hemp cotton blend fabric and features free motion embroidered loops.

Custom Screen Printed Fabrics

When are you the most creative? I find that I am most creative in the middle of the night after I get almost all of my 4 children to bed. This past evening was no exception, I am happy because I was able to actually play with my new colors and create some custom screen printed fabrics. This fabric is eco friendly and sustainable and printed with water based inks. Here are a couple of samples that I have finished.

My goal is to create some more custom printed fabrics over the next couple of days but I will have to see. I was just so excited that I had to share.

Developing My Own Screen Printing Color Palette

Last night I was a little bored so I broke out my screen printing supplies and began to create my own color palette. I made 5 new colors that I didn't already have in my collection and I plan to make some up this evening once my house settles down for the night so I can give it my undivided attention. The colors from bubblegum pink, aquamarine, wisteria, chocolate brown (not black) & coral.

I plan to use a couple of the colors that I have created in my handbag collection with two designs that I am still trying to figure out the right colors. It was really fun playing around with the various colors to come up with these.
